Douglas H. Sullivan is a Defense Attorney practicing in federal court and state court criminal matters in Western Pennsylvania. Douglas started his career in mortgage foreclosure law in the Philadelphia area, where he honed his legal research and writing skills. He worked as a prosecutor in the Erie County District Attorney’s Office, where he prosecuted everything from traffic offenses up through homicides, obtaining convictions at trial and winning on appeals.
As a Deputy Attorney General for the Office of Attorney General, Douglas worked alongside law enforcement and other governmental agencies to prosecute crimes under the Crimes Code and hold companies accountable for violations of environmental regulations in some of the most complex and technical crimes on the books. Douglas served as a quarter of the Environmental Crimes Section, opposing some of the largest law firms in the country.
These prosecutorial experiences shape the Defense Attorney Douglas is today. With insight into how law enforcement and government operates, and an understanding of how crimes are investigated, decisions made, and what evidence is needed for a prosecutor to obtain a guilty verdict, Douglas knows what it takes to defend a client successfully. In each phase of a case, you will want to call Douglas to advise you whether law enforcement shows up at your door to ask questions, or if you’ve received charges in the mail. Douglas has the eye of a prosecutor and the mind of a defense attorney to see how your case will work out in your best interest.
Before moving to Erie, Douglas took the time to learn about the various underlying components of how crimes come to be. As a member of the community panel advising the Office of Drug and Alcohol in the third largest county in Pennsylvania, Douglas understands the science behind addiction and knows what needs to happen to address the problem and avoid re-offending. As a Special Education major, mental health and behavioral health and reviewing records and documentation pertaining to mental health are all something within Douglas’s knowledge and skillset.
When Douglas is not working on cases or conducting legal research, he is spending time with his wife, working in the yard, playing with his dogs, playing golf, or fishing.
